The very own Karachi University’s campus radio can be heard on the FM 90.6 megahertz frequency between 10pm to 11pm, within a radius of 15 to 18km. The entire cost of Rs4 million incurred on the setting up of the studio and its equipment had been borne by the university from its own resources (the news).
The campus station, set up at the university’s Department of Mass Communication. This campus radio 90.6 is being solely supervised by Professor Inam Bari Jafri of the Department of Mass Communication, while its content is being produced by the students exclusively .The campus radio is basically a type of radio station that is run by the students of a Mass Communication. Campus radio 90.6 carry the variety of programmes including news (often local), sports (often relating to the campus), airing bulletins in both English and Urdu, besides presenting documentaries relating to social, cultural, literary and educational activities taking place in and around the campus. The M.A. (Final) students are primarily producing the bulletin while the rest of the department is involved in making other programmes.Being a campus radio, it is non-commercial and its range is limited to 15 kilometers, thus restricting its listener ship to a small portion of the city around the varsity .It is not being properly heard in Defence , Clifton, Korangi and adjoining localities(the news). This is the sad part of the campus radio 90.6.
The campus radio 90.6 is the excellent platform for the students of mass communication who have the ambition of working in professional radio stations such as 100 fm, 103 mast fm or hot 105 fm as a presenter or r j or d j in future. Students gain lot of experience in working as a presenter at the campus radio 90.6.
